Visiting and Belonging
Will people think it is strange if I just walk in?
The Church's Welcome Around Walking Into Church for the First Time
Usually, no. People visit churches. You may be noticed because the parish is a community and unfamiliar faces stand out, but that should not be treated as strange. Most parishes are glad when someone comes to pray or learn.
What To Expect
Some people may greet you. Others may be focused on the service, their children, or receiving Communion. A quiet parish is not necessarily an unfriendly parish. Orthodox worship can be intense, and many people are trying to follow the prayers.
A Low-Pressure Way To Visit
Arrive a little early, sit where you can see, and tell one person, "I am visiting for the first time." That is enough. You do not need a long explanation for why you came.
