Why do Resurrection and feast hymns sound more joyful?

What The Prayers Teach About Festal Hymnody

Feast hymns sound joyful because the Church is proclaiming victory, light, and thanksgiving. The Resurrection is not only announced in words. It is heard in the whole tone of worship.

This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Joy As Worship

During the Resurrection season and major feasts, the Church's melodies become brighter because the content is brighter: Christ has risen, the saints rejoice, and the faithful give thanks for salvation. The melody helps the faithful pray the feast with the body and the voice.

What To Listen For Around Festal Hymnody

Notice whether the tune carries triumph, thanksgiving, or procession. In feast seasons, the sound often tells you that the Church is celebrating before you fully understand the words.
