What does “Pikhristos aftonf” mean?
What The Prayers Teach About Pikhristos Aftonf
Pikhristos aftonf means "Christ is risen." You will hear it especially in the Resurrection season and in hymns that proclaim the Lord's victory over death.
But now Christ is risen from the dead.
Why It Matters
The phrase is short because the proclamation is central. The Church does not treat the Resurrection as an idea kept in a textbook. It is sung, repeated, and carried into the whole season of worship.
How To Respond
When you hear this phrase, remember the English meaning. The sound of the Coptic words will begin to attach to the feast itself: joy, light, victory, and the announcement that Christ has conquered death.
